So we did it! Really, we did it this time. We are officially full-time RVers. There is no turning back as there is no longer a brick and mortar house to call home. We sold our beloved Georgia home after only 7 days on the market. All the inspections and appraisal went smoothly and we closed on December 17. Whew, that is a weight off our shoulders! Actually, it was somewhat sad saying goodbye to our house and friends, but RVentures await.
While finalizing the sale, we spent some quality time with family. We traveled to Ohio for Thanksgiving to visit Wade’s family. It was great to see Wade’s sister, nieces, brother, mother, and spouses! We had wonderful times around the Thanksgiving feasts. We even got to help pick out the Baer Christmas tree. Oh, I almost forgot the most exciting part of our Thanksgiving trip. Wade got locked in the hotel bathroom! Seriously, we had to call maintenance on Thanksgiving morning to remove the faulty door lock! He was only stuck for 15-20 minutes 😉 We miss Wade’s family and it was great to catch up! His nieces are so grown up, it is amazing to gain a glimpse into teenager lives. What is really ironic, is that when we were their ages, Wade and I were already dating. Wow! Next, I traveled to New York to visit my family. Wade unfortunately had to stay home and work. We didn’t want to bring the RV up to snow country yet. And of course it snowed! But the snow really got me into the Christmas spirit. I had an amazing time with my nieces, who are growing up so fast, and the rest of my clan. I was lucky enough to visit both girls schools, watch my oldest niece in her first Christmas concert, and I also got to help pick out the Elliott Christmas trees too. Of course, I ate at my favorite NY restaurants! Oh, and I took my brother to the doctor to be diagnosed with the FLU. However, I managed to escape with just some mild cold like symptoms. A text to my soon-to-be doctor sister confirmed I could just use OTC meds! Thanks sis! The trip went by way to fast and soon I was headed back to GA.
Upon return, we had the fun task of moving out of the house. Remember, we only had furniture and odds and ends left. However, Wade is awesome so he hired 2 helpers to move our stuff! I think he was afraid I couldn’t carry half the furniture’s weight. He was probably right, as on moving day it was pouring rain! We moved the remainder of our lives into a storage unit (after some careful Tetris like manuevers), cleaned our house for the last time, and packed the RV up. Then we were off!
Our first stop was Stone Mountain Park. We had to stay near Atlanta for the closing, so we headed to one of our favorite local spots. However, after making our reservation at Stone Mountain, we found out that Sawnee Campground on Lake Lanier was still open for camping. We just happened to drive in to this park on one of our errands before moving out (according to the website it was closed for the season) and we ran into a fantastic fellow RVer, Maynard of Freewheelin. He was a wealth of information and a great guy. Thanks for the tips Maynard! However, we still headed to Stone Mountain and really enjoyed our brief stay. The park’s main attractions were closed mid-week (when we were there) but they had a very impressive Christmas light display and some fireworks one night. We had a nice short stay. However, our minds and bodies craved some warmth and sunshine. So Florida here we come!
