Rest and Relaxtion in Ririe

Ririe, Idaho

June 15-10, 2014

After an exciting, action packed week in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks we needed a week of rest and relaxation.  So what better place, then Ririe, Idaho?  Ririe has a population of 656 and is 30 minutes outside of Idaho Falls.   And it is in the middle of nowhere Idaho. We picked a wonderful campsite along Ririe Reservoir with full hook-ups for $18 a night.  Can’t beat that, can you? We were fully immersed in potato fields, hay fields, and windmills.  It was fantastic!

We did manage a couple day trips to Idaho Falls.  Idaho Falls is lovely small city.  We really enjoyed its park along the Snake River, the Snake River Greenbelt.  Idaho Falls is named after its man-made falls in the Snake River. The original hydroelectric dam was built in 1909!  They were one of the first cites in the USA to power their city with hydroelectric power.  In fact, currently hydroelectric dams provide 50% of the cities power needs. Impressive, huh.  The falls really are beautiful, especially after enjoying one of the two microbreweries in town!  Yes, we did indulge in the local brew culture.  We also wandered along the historic downtown streets and did some antique shopping. In addition, we found a lovely dairy, Reed’s Dairy, where we indulged in homemade ice cream and stocked up on diary products.  Milk, heavy cream, butter, cheese, and ice cream, oh my!  This diary still does home delivery.  How cool is that?!

The rest of our week here was spent relaxing at our lakeside oasis.  Ahh, it is a good life!
