Sonoma Wine Country

Cloverdale, CA

November 19-26, 2014

From mountains to vineyards,  we descended our mystical mountain location for a taste of California wine country. Of course when we left it was raining…I know California really needs it. We drove over Lake Shasta and saw first hand the reality of the California drought. This large lake is now just a little river! The massive bridges seemed unnecessary, as the lake was dry. We will see if we can bring more rain to this drought stricken state. I can’t believe the rain is finally here! Yada..yada..yada.

As we approached the coast we were happy to see more greenery, but the Russian River was not as mighty as we had hoped. We aptly set up shop and went to eat at a local Thai restaurant, and it did not disappoint. I’ll keep this post fairly short since for the next week all we really did is eat, drink, and genuinely be merry. We pickled our livers with the fresh taste of local wine tastings, and wow is there more than enough of the drink in the area. From underground caverns to wide-open vineyards, we perused, tasted, and brought a few bottles home. Neither one of us would consider ourselves winos but as with most things the more we try the more we buy.

While in the area we also enjoyed Santa Rosa, which has some great breweries like the Russian River and 3rd Street Tap. It also has a nice historic downtown. We find that oftentimes walking the streets visiting the shops is the best medicine for over indulging.

After all the gluttony we thought it would be nice to reconnect with spirit so being we are in CA we had no trouble finding a local theatre playing Awake, a movie about the life of Yogananda. It was a nice break from all the sinning we had been doing. Afterwards we decided to walk around Sebastopol and find some food and spirits of a different kind. A few more brews, wine, and farm to table and we were considering the little town of Sebastopol a gem found in the rough. Arriving back at the rig refreshed from the road we cleaned up the rig and tried to get some rest. Life on the road is full of things to do and rest is rarely one of them.
